Kate Mink is an artist, mum, pretend librarian, very bewildered Scottish person who has lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for 10 years.
Statement: When I create, I go to a world where the surrounding light is like that of a late sunny autumnal afternoon and all is bathed in a warm sleepy glow. It is an in between place where things are not quite as they seem. In this other world I visit old houses, gardens and hills, collecting yellowing paper, flowers and playing with memories. The fragmented images and feelings from these journeys float up to the surface which I capture between layers of golden ink or bees wax, thread and paper, trapping a fleeting moment, in a slightly haunted suspension. These collections of marks and images become souvenirs of journeys back there to hold onto. To create a small space/place where I always feel I belong and maybe/hopefully if I get it right, for others to belong, and remember that beautiful fleeting in-between too.
